CSB Division Six Premiers – Middle Park

With Murrumbeena winning the toss and choosing to bat first at Ross Gregory Oval the day was set for an exciting finale.

However, things didn’t get off to a good start for the visitors losing a wicket on the 2nd ball of the day. A run out in the 4th over put Beena at 2-5. It was then just a dominant display with the ball and fielding that restricted Murrumbeena to 79 all out after 30 overs. Highlights include Tiger like veteran Simon Matthews rolling back the years taking a match winning 6.4-2-10-4 and claiming the best on ground medal for the day.

Middle Park with a modest total to chase down lost an early wicket in the first over. It was then a conservative innings from captain Mark Harris and club President Paul Gillespie putting on a 49-run partnership to grind down the total. Leaving the final 30 runs for Nick “BBQ” Gouin and Tim Holland to bring the game home.

Middle Park captain Mark Harris said after the game “It was a great way to end the year, winning our 4th consecutive premiership is something that doesn’t happen every day”. Today we fielded a team mixed with youth and experience and the combination works really well.

It was a great team effort, everyone has contributed throughout the season. Today our youngest player Luca Kamberis (16) bowled excellently, along with South Melbourne veteran Paul Lacy (mid 50’s going on late 30’s) who bowled with the ball on a piece of string with figures of 7-4-4-1.

Although the game wasn’t a thrilling spectacle, a mention must go to both umpires who had an excellent game, also the spirit in which the game was played and to both sets of spectators who behaved fantastically.
